‘Keith Howard: Eve’s Garden’ on view at Axom Gallery through Sept. 29
Aug 31, 2012
The Garden of Eden has found a new, contemporary paradise through a series of paintings and prints by an internationally acclaimed artist, author and educator from Rochester Institute of Technology.
“Keith Howard: Eve’s Garden” will be on display in a solo exhibition of paintings and prints at Axom Gallery, 176 Anderson Ave., Suite 303, Rochester. The show runs from Aug. 31 through Sept. 29, with an opening reception scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 and an artist talk from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18.
Howard is the head of contemporary printmaking at RIT and associate professor at RIT’s School of Art. His new body of work, the “Eve” paintings is a new genre of artistic expression that features the romantic ideals of the biblical Eve in a modernized setting of panoramic landscapes.
Axom Gallery will offer extended hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in conjunction with Rochester’s Greentopia Festival—the weeklong celebration from Sept. 10 to 16 that promotes innovative ideas and products for sustainable living.
Howard’s contributions to the development of nontoxic printmaking techniques have shaped the way art and printmaking professionals think about issues of sustainability, health and safety in the arts. He has pioneered a program at RIT—using recyclable materials and converting to newer, safer methods in establishing greener studios—that is considered one of the most advanced academic nontoxic printmaking programs in the U.S.
In celebration of the mission of Greentopia, Axom Gallery will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of paintings and prints to the Genesee Land Trust to support their efforts to preserve and protect the land within the Greater Rochester area.
