Our teachers in the area are excellent in nurturing and fostering creativity for all students.

Move over Picasso: Talented middle and high school student artists participating in the Rochester-Finger Lakes Middle and High School Community Exhibition have the opportunity to showcase their oeuvre—maybe not at the Louvre, but at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Bevier Gallery.
The exhibition begins with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, and includes an award ceremony from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in RIT’s University Gallery (adjacent to Bevier Gallery). The awards recognize outstanding student work in several disciplines, as well as excellence in teaching and service. The show runs through Feb. 25.
“The exhibition has a few changes this year, including awards for creativity and excellence,” says Carole Woodlock, professor and chair of RIT’s School of Art. “The awards are sponsored by each of our programs in RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, so there will be an industrial design award, illustration award, medical illustration award, interior and graphic design awards and so on.
“We are honored to have these students share their insights; their visual extravaganzas are so rich and deluxe. Our kids have wonderful ways of seeing the world and our society, and they express it in a fresh and unique way.”
The exhibition features more than 260 student art submissions—chosen for display by 120 teachers in 40-plus area schools across the Rochester-Finger Lakes region—from Webster Schroeder to Rush-Henrietta to Wayland-Cohocton. RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences is hosting the event.
Bevier Gallery is handicapped-accessible and is located in James E. Booth Hall. Visitor parking is available in lots E and F.
