European Independent Film Festival
(11/07)
The ECU Film Festival’s mantra is to discover the very best independent filmmaking talent from around the World. There are many creatively directed, beautifully photographed and intelligently written films that don’t make it to the ‘Hollywood-swamped’ theaters because they lack financial support. We want to find these independent filmmakers, who have a firm belief in their ability as storytellers, and give them the opportunity to screen their fresh, innovative and free spirited films in front of large international audiences and industry representatives.
ECU is the only independent film festival that is truly pan-European and this uniqueness attracts thousands of submissions as filmmakers compete for the title of Europe’s Best Independent Film. The films are judged by a prestigious jury of respected filmmakers and industry experts and many of the award winning filmmakers from previous editions of ECU have since gone onto achieve great success. In fact, ECU 2008 could launch the career of one of your students.
For more information about ECU 2008 you can visit our website at www.ecufilmfestival.com

Braun Media/Twin Cities Underground Film Festival
(10/07)
Braun Media is an established, content distribution company that has secured multiple VOD (Video on Demand) contracts with some of the leading VOD companies and third-party vendors in the business. Braun Media currently has a large library of titles including specialty videos like “Kent Hrbek Outdoors” and the “Dr. Laura Berman” series, classic TV shows like “The Andy Griffith Show,” classic films, and the exclusive, rare-performance Music Masters series featuring the likes of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin (to name a few). Right now, the one thing the Braun Media catalog lacks are independent films.
To “sweeten the pot” for their VOD contracts, Braun Media is looking to secure the NON-EXCLUSIVE, worldwide VOD rights to as many independent feature films as possible. As such, they have set up a webpage explaining how and why they intend to do this. It can be accessed here: http://www.bmsdigital.com/pages/vod.html. From there, you can submit your film for consideration to this program. There is one caveat: they DO charge a fee for consideration BUT do not let that deter you. 90% of all entries will be accepted. Those that aren’t will get 80% of their money back. Why is there a fee? Simply, to cover handling, promotional and administrative costs. Every single film submitted will be watched and rated by a human being. If your film is not accepted, it will be returned (along with 80% of your fee) with a rating card explaining WHY. Since they are approaching individual filmmakers and not distributors, this fee is necessary to facilitate the sheer amount of films they are currently receiving. A good way to approach it is more as a film festival. Most film festivals take your money and if you don’t get in, you never find out why and you’re out the cash. With this, there is very little to lose since you not only get most of your money back, you get a written reason WHY you didn’t get in!
Remember, this opportunity is ONLY for the NON-EXCLUSIVE, worldwide VOD rights to feature length (60 minutes or more) films. You can still screen your film wherever you want, sell DVDs or do whatever you want with it. I cannot encourage you enough to submit your film. As a filmmaker myself, who has scoured the net for distribution deals, this is probably one of the best out there. Also, since you’ve previously submitted your film to the Twin Cities Underground Film Festival, I can offer you a special 20% off deal if you submit before November 15th. When you check out, enter promo code “filmfest” and you’ll receive 20% off your fee.

LAAFEST Call for submissions
(1/8/07)
The LAAFEST will be catering especially to the needs of students and all those wishing to carve out a career in the animation business.
We have 2 industry sponsored competitions and are only showing entries to these during the 2 days in October.
I've set up 2 web sites, printed/distributed teaser flyers and we're starting to get a lot of interest. I should be finalizing the venue later this month and getting the contracts ready, but in the meantime I want to get the word out so people have the chance to enter work for the short "Ghost story" competition.
If you're interested in helping spread the news of this event e-mail me and I can send you some flyers to post in your school, studio or organization. Or post links to the festival thorugh your website or blog. Every bit of publicity helps.
