Jorge Nava, Visiting Filmmaker Presentation this Friday 10/13/06
Jorge Nava, a Visiting Filmmaker from San Diego, will be giving a Presentation of his Work this Friday, 10/13/06, at 9:00am in 7B-4080 for Faculty and Students.
"Born in the midst of the cultural crossroads that is the Mexico-U.S. border, Jorge Nava uses digital media to explore and participate in the linguistic, aesthetic and social collisions of art and culture in the shifting context of this bicultural territory. His first-hand knowledge of both Mexico and the U.S. has given him a heightened awareness of the ways in which culture, values, and systems of power can "travel" across borders. Currently he is working on a project which integrates visual ethnography and improvisational jazz theory. His work has been exhibited at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Buenos Aires, and ATA Gallery in San Francisco among others.
"Me, Myself, and I: Ethnography and the Autobiographical Impulse"
Your attendance at Jorge's Presentation is welcome.
