Why is there a difference in price for different affiliations?
The professional training rate of $1200 for the 4 day session is a competitive market price for training centers across the country. This price covers the cost of the training, trainer, training facility AND the certification exam at the end of the session. As an educational institution the Rochester Institute of Technology has decided to offer a discounted rate ($600) for members of its community to encourage its own internal development. Additionally, for the Level 1 End User exam, you do not need to have completed a course so we can offer the Level 1 End User exam as a separate fee. Feel free to contact the Apple Certified Training Facility if you should have any questions about discounted pricing for large groups (10 or more individuals) or for questions you may have in general.

What does my paid registration fee include?
When you pay for your registration to one of RIT's Apple Certified Training Sessions, upon arrival you will receive a copy of Diana Weynand's Final Cut Pro HD book which is the certified text for all Apple Certified Training Facilities. In addition, your registration will cover the cost of our trainer and facilities for the week that you are here. Finally, it will include the cost of the exam at the end of the session. If you successfully pass that exam, you will be a certified user of the product that you were receiving training on. So it really is a complete package beginning to end.

What version of Final Cut Pro will we be trained on?
We have been training people on FCP v.5 for a year. The next two workshops (November and March) will be version 5.

What is the best way to register for a training session?
There really is no one way that is better. However, for expediting a request, especially if it is getting close to the scheduled session that you are interested in attending, it is simpler to handle things through the online form. Simply click the "Register" button next to the application you would like training on and fill out the form provided for that application. Your registration request will be handled digitally and you will be charged via your credit card. There is no waiting for a check to be delivered and we won't be able to reserve your seat in the class until payment has been received.

When will I find out whether or not I'm registered in my session of choice?
If you used a credit card with our online registration form, once your payment has been processed accordingly, you will receive an email confirming your registration information, session information and additional contact information for the training facility.
If you will be sending a personal check or a bank check as your payment, it will take a day or two for the check to reach us and then it will be processed accordingly. Once the check has been processed and payment has been confirmed you will receive an email notification of your confirmed registration.
In any case, the maximum number of available seats in any single class is 20 and registrations will be processed in the order in which the online registration form is received.

What equipment is available in the facility that the training will be held in?
The New Media Lab includes 24 Apple Macintosh Workstations running Mac OS X (Panther). Each of these machines is equipped with Dual 800 mHz G4 processors, dual 80 GB internal hard drives, 1.5 GB of system memory, and a SuperDrive optical drive. They also have external firewire ports available for portable hard drives if the student has one at his/her disposal. In addition, the lab also is equipped with an Epson Expression 1600 and a Nikon LS 2000 scanners as well as a computer animation stand.

I'm going to be in Rochester for several days, where is the best place to stay?
Visit RIT's home page for information about local area hotels and information on how to contact them to reserve a room. Room reservations should be made at least 2 weeks in advance of the training session.

What types of Credit Cards can we use to pay the registration costs?
Currently RIT is only able to process Mastercard and Visa credit card orders. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Will a training session ever be cancelled?
If an emergency should arise, the RIT School of Film and Animation maintains the right to cancel any training session being held within its facilities without notice. Additionally, we need an enrollment of at least 3 individuals to conduct an appropriate training session. If the minimum of 3 individuals have not registered by 2 weeks prior to the start of the training session, we will notify you by email that the session has been cancelled due to a lack of interest. In any case, if RIT cancels a session you will be issued a full refund for the cost of the session.

What if I have to cancel my registration in a training session?
RIT respectfully understands that things happen and situations arise that may prevent your attendance at a training session. If you should have to cancel your registration in a scheduled Training Session we will gladly refund the total amount of your registration fee up to 2 weeks prior to the scheduled start of the session. RIT WILL NOT refund any fees you incur as a result of canceling travel reservations including but not limited to airfare, hotel or rental cars. After the 2 week deadline passes we will offer a partial refund equivalent to half of your registration fee. No refund will be offered after the training session starts. Therefore, if something comes up that prevents your attendance, it is in your best interrest to notify us as soon as possible to make arrangements or to discuss your options.

Everything is all set, and I have received my confirmation. What do I do now?
Neither RIT, nor its agents, will make travel reservations on your behalf. You should contact a travel agent or an online reservation vendor to arrange for airfare and accommodations if they are needed. Bus service is available from Park Plaza Hotel and the RIT Inn and Conference Center to the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Park Plaza Hotel is also within walking distance of the campus.
If you should happen to have any specific questions about your travel to the campus that aren't covered on this page, feel free to email us or call us (585.475.6175) and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

OK, you've covered airfare, but I'm in the local area and won't need a hotel or airfare to attend the session. But, how do I get to the Rochester Institute of Technology?
RIT is conveniently located just off of NY Rte. 390. See RIT's Homepage to find easy directions from most areas and a link to generate Mapquest directions from all areas.

Where can I park at RIT?
Visitors to the RIT campus can park in any parking space designated as Visitors. On the first day of your registered session you will be provided a "Guest" parking pass that must be placed in your vehicle in a viewable location and must remain in place during the duration of the time that your vehicle is parked here on campus. The training will take place in Building 7B (Frank E. Gannett Building) in room 1303. We recommend parking in the lots adjacent to that building. Those lots are labeled as Lots E and F. You can also park in Lots G and H but they are further of a walk. More specific directions to the facility will be provided upon registration in a training program.

OK, you've answered pretty much all of my questions, but I've still got one or two more. How can I get in touch with someone to discuss any additional questions I have?
You can feel free to email any questions you have to the Apple Certified Training Facility or you can contact Mary Barnard, the Secretary for the School of Film and Animation at 585.475.6175. She will either be able to answer your questions or be able to point you in the proper direction to get your questions answered.
