Comps Round 2

February 1st, 2008

More comps this time, each one done by a different person. You can see that they all have very common elements. Except for Jeff’s, they are all dark. Colors are also very similar to one another. The long shaped thumbnails is another common element that we liked, since it related to the theme of the ‘full bleed avatars.’ Introduction of textured background using carbon fiber pattern. Another element that is repatriated down the line is the use of CMYK colors, as seen on the second to last comp. It gives the site more of a print feel, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Preliminary sktech

January 11th, 2008

Relic from one of our earliest meetings. This is where we came up with our original idea and flushed it out for the most part.

The idea here is that each user uploads an avatar (which is different than a profile picture) which we call a “full bleed avatar” because it spans across the center content area. We’re guessing, as of now, that it will be probably 800 wide and 400 tall, although the height really isn’t as important. The height of the image, or cropping anyways, will be determined on how active the user is on the site. The more they do and frequent, the larger their avatar is on the ’stack view. The stack view is simply a stack of all the avatars, from most recently logged in to last, and it updates real time via flash media server.

There will also be 4 other sections besides the profile view and stack (this is in the People category). The Places section will be a map that shows were people are, have been, etc. The Talk section is a simple chat forum kind of deal, except we plan to structure it so it is a little more unique. The Work section is a place to show off what people have been doing at their companies or on their own. And finally, the Inspiration (later changed to Spark) section will be inspirational websites, photos, etc. that people have found and want to share.
