New Tabletop – Render

This video represents a possible solution for creating our tabletop. All pieces would be made of wood and are only represented with color to show contrast.

Step One

Build this. (Great, we’ve already done that)

Step Two
table_step1
1. Create a 29″x39″ rectangular cutout in a piece of 3/4″x4′x8′ plywood using a jigsaw.
2. Place the plywood and poplar over the table base from step one. Nail into place. These two pieces will have different heights; that will be taken care of later.

$40 for 1 – 3/4″x4′x8′ Sandeply Hardwood Plywood
$3 for 1 – 1″x8″x6′ Poplar wood

Step Three

3. Layer and position the thin acrylic piece, vellum, and thick acrylic piece (with outside aluminum channel) over the opening in the plywood.
4. Lightly secure these pieces using tape/glue.

Step Four

5. Create a frame for the acrylic surfaces from step three by nailing/gluing 1″x2″xXX” pieces of wood around the acrylic.
6. Nail/glue additional pieces of 1″x2″xXX” wood around the outside of the tabletop created in step two.
7. Nail/glue and additional piece of 3/4″ thick poplar over the piece from step two.

$9 for 3 – 1″x8″x6′ Poplar wood

Step Five

8. Create a 29″x39″ rectangular cutout in the piece of 1/4″x4′x8′ plywood using a jigsaw.
9. Cut a 10″x60″ piece of 1/4″x4′x8′ plywood.
10. Secure both pieces of plywood to the rest of the tabletop using finishing nails.

$40 for 2 – 1/4″x4′x8′ Sandeply Hardwood Plywood
$10(?) for 1 – Box of finishing nails

Additional support would be added along the way if necessary.

Although it will almost inevitably cost more, the rough total would be $102 +tax.
