I’m in the market for a new digital camera. I have one but i haven’t used it since freshman year of college… stopped when i met Joe and used his camera. hahaha

So I’m in NC, christmas vacation, and Joe isn’t coming and that means, no camera. And I have to take pictures for a project. what to do?

I could use my parents point and shoot 35mm FILM camera. which could be interesting because i could probably do something cool with the negatives. but it’s just a point and shoot. I have no control on aperture or film speed. well. film speed yes but only in buying the film. and most importantly, if I screw up the shooting, i won’t know until I get the film developed and there goes my vacation…

I want a nice digital camera. I kinda want to get an ultra compact, so I can carry it around easily with me… almost all the time. but it comes back to the point and shoot. I don;t just want to click and that’s it. I like to control all the variables.

I found an ultra-compact that I can control, but it’s $600 … if I’m going to spend that much i might as well get the SONY A100 SLR…. and have full control over everything and be able to change the lenses.

I have to think if i want a ultra compact and suffer with the limited controls but have the portability for less money, or just get the big one with more control….

AHHHHHHHHHH WHY IS GETTING A CAMERA SO DAMN DIFFICULT!!!

I think I should just go to Best Buy or something and just play with all the cameras… even if it will be useless, at least i’d have played with some cameras…

So I found a whole freaking awesome SonyA100 kit on ebay for like, $630 plus shipping and I’m all exited until I saw the “won’t ship to an unverified address” well.. damn… My paypal and address are verified but not my parents. TO get them a paypal account and verify them will take a few days PLUS no garuntee that they will sell to my parents because of their big fat ZERO in feedback on ebay.
this.sucks.

I decided I need to use this blog more often, and not just for updates on projects, that’s what filters are for. No, I want to get a bit more personal, without being too personal, because i feel that if I share a bit more than a few comps for a school project, it’ll show that I’m a person.

I like being a person. So I shall start sharing a bit of my life in wordpress. Do Employers like seeing people with personalities? i hope so.
Traveling to my parents house -

We, the other passengers and I, arrive from Rochester and hang out for awhile waiting for the back-up at the terminal to let us into a gate. I go in and find my gate, say okay, i’m going to get some coffee… tracked back down the terminal to a shop that has coffee when I hear an announcment: “attention passengers for 1109 to Raleigh-Durham, as soon as the connecting flight 33 from Rochester New York arrives we will start the boarding process…” I’m standing there looking at my arms thinking, I am here, right? I have been her for 5 minutes… what the hell? So I bought my snack ..there was no coffee…., and head back over to the gate, where, surprisingly, they haven’t opened the gate yet to board. So I ask another person waiting, “what are we waiting for.. i don’t think I heard the announcment clearly…”

“I think we’re waiting for a connecting flight from Rochester”

“Um…. flight 33? I’m from that flight… I got off the plane about 5 minutes ago.”

He shrugged, with an “I don’t know”, so I tuned my ears towards the lady beind the desk talking to an older woman who was about to serve hell, i don’t know… but I overheard that we were now waiting for the second flight attendant who wasn’t there yet. Then it became, a second flight attendant who was at the airport but isn’t here yet… finally, it’s 9:50, flight was supposed to leave 5 minutes before, we get an announcement saying “sorry for the delay, we’re still waiting on our 2nd flight attendant, who is now on her way with her supervisor. turns out this was a very last minute change for her and she was not aware that she had to come. She will be here shortly.”

so we wait, finally around 10 past 10 we board. we totally skip the boarding “process” and do a “we will just start boarding, have your passes ready”. meanwhile, people were getting confused because there was a gate change for another flight to go to our gate. while, we haven’t left yet. it was crazy. while the door was still open we heard some loud screaming through the gate. not sure what it was about exactly, I was trying to watch Law and Order…

I’m in the plane, and we’re waiting… had to wait for 10-15 more things of luggage to come over. finally got pushed back from that gate after waiting. the air filtering starts and we stop. a passenger goes up the flight attendant and she’s talking, talking, talking. attendant calls the captain, calls the gate, captain comes on the speakers, “attention passangers, a passenger has noticed what you are all probably noticing, is the smell of exhaust coming in through the vents. this is a very normal occurance, especially here because of all the planes taking off and landing, that it is only normal for a little smell to come through the vents while we’re still on the ground. However, she has requested to get off the plane so we are going back to the gate.”

so we wait to get clearance back to the gate, drop her off, talking to peoples from the terminals, have to get her luggage off the plane. finally waiting to get one of the carts to push us backwards. meanwhile, it is currently 11:45. we should be landing in NC by now. I knew this because I was watching law and order, then house, while in the air i was watching iron chef…

during all this I couldn’t take out my cell phone because the door was either closed, or i didn’t know how long it was going to stay open.

So mom and dad are at the airport since 11:45, and freaking out because the TV screens were showing that we were “on time” until around 12:15 when they took the flight off the screen… since,according to the computers, it was already “there” but wasn’t. no one updated the computers with our delays. and of course, being Raleigh, a smaller airport than, let’s say, JFK, no one was around. Security was there but they were useless apparently. the Jet blue and other plane offices and “info” stations were closed. My parents tried calling jet blue on their cell phone, and they were just as useless.

for awhile, we did not exist.

finally someone said out loud, “they are here!” and a minute or two later I came down the escalator. Yes.. I was drawn into a very large hug because apparently people thought the worst.

that is my amazing travel story. enjoy.

So, I know they are late. I had to go home for a week to help out and then be part of my sister’s wedding. It ate up so much of my time. I finally got back and I’m finally able to upload my comps. I also no longer have a part time job. So, I should be able to catch up on all my work in no time…

What makes marketing so powerful and effective? When the consumer does not even realize that he is being advertised to. Commercials are obvious, as are ads in the paper. It’s only those ads and interactive sites that get the user involved and relating to something that are effective.

Marketing has come a long way. It used to be plain and simple, literal and to the point. However, it got to the point where people could tune them out. “Oh, it’s a commercial, I’ll go look over there now.” Later, marketing evolved a bit to add a bit of amusement or entertainment. Like those old Mentos commercials. This was effective because people like being entertained, and not sold to. It was, however, short lived.  Another type of marketing was relating with the consumer. This is effective because you illustrate the problem, and then the marketer advertises the solution with the product or service. One outrageous type of marketing is just being very vague… though this isn’t always the best solution. You may end up confusing the consumer and not getting your point across effectively.

A very recent type of marketing has emerged lately and is growing wildly.  It is Interactive Marketing. Products and companies are utilizing this form because it is very effective. It informs, it entertains, and it allows the c nsumer to relate to the issue that the product or service advertised is for. This is a roll up of all effective advertising.

Please don’t mind the box of tissues and the trail of used snotty tissue balls around the room and in the garbage. Just having a wonderful end to the first week of senior year.

So.. ideas.. It took me awhile because everything seemed to have been done. but I guess I just have to push that out of my mind.

The Idea I came up with is an image caption site. Right now the idea is that the web-master will upload the first photo to be captioned. the users will caption the photo, and/or vote for their favorite. The winner of the week will have the option to submit the next photo. If they do not have one to submit, then they can ask the web-master to do it again.

That’s the idea.
