Undergraduate Photojournalism (BFA)
Program Overview
The Photojournalism program will inspire you to document the emotions, drama, suspense, and exhilaration of real-life events and people, for diverse media outlets, including print (newspaper, magazines, and books) and electronic (television and web-based) media. As storytellers, photojournalists create images, both still and moving, that document the history of our culture, evoking both the momentous and the everyday circumstances of contemporary life and society.
The success of the Photojournalism program is due to its extensive curriculum, comprised of photojournalism core courses and special-topic electives. You may take courses in multimedia that include sound, video-gathering and editing. This combination of courses, both required and elective, will offer you unique opportunities to develop a lifelong career in photojournalism. To date, RIT photojournalism alumni include 10 Pulitzer Prize-winning image-makers.
As a photojournalism student, you may participate in professional organizations such as the student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). In addition to attending regional and national conferences sponsored by NPPA, you may also contribute to the creation of special publications centered on community activity and awareness, and provide staff support to RIT's student-run magazine, The Reporter.
