Program Overview
The Imaging Arts Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in Photography and Related Media is an advanced course of study in fine art photography, digital imaging, and moving media. The program emphasizes imaging as a fine art practice with the goal of inspiring and nurturing artistic individuality through an extensive study of art practice, criticism and aesthetics.
The MFA program is led by 15 full-time faculty members from the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and supported by visiting and adjunct faculty, faculty from the School of Art and College of Liberal Arts, and by noted artists, critics, and historians residing in the region. Graduate students work with an abundance of equipment in imaging and printing technologies for traditional, alternative and digital fine art applications. Graduate students have access to dedicated darkrooms, as well as graduate digital labs with up-to-date computers, scanners, software, and printers. A wide variety of shooting studios are also available, along with a dedicated graduate space for experimental activities and displays.
This MFA program prepares students for employment in higher education, museum or gallery work, publishing, digital media, and for careers as fine art image-makers.
