College of Imaging Arts & Sciences

The Foundations Department provides a broad set of introductory experiences for you within the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. These courses (included in the curricula of the degree tracks in Art, Design, Crafts, Photography, and Film) include drawing, 2D design, 3D design, 4D design and art history—all geared to help you to develop critical and creative thinking processes, hone the verbal and visual capacities you'll need for effective communication and for integrating a conceptual approach into your work, expand your historical awareness, and insure that you are comfortable with the materials and manual skills common across disciplines. Our program will lay the groundwork for you to meet the challenges of your chosen field of study and prepare you for your future career.
