Program Overview
The MFA in Film and Animation program offers several concentrations: Animation (2D or 3D), Production, and Scriptwriting. Completion of a concentration results in an Masters degree in Film and Animation.
The Animation track offers both 2D and 3D courses of study. You will be able to customize your three-year track to fit your interests. Your first two years are devoted to coursework, and your third year culminates in a thesis project. Courses in drawing, directing, acting, writing, and sound are offered. Upon graduation, you will feel confident to begin your professional career as a 2D or 3D animator.
The Production track goes above and beyond other film master's degree programs, allowing you to make a minimum of three films throughout your course of study. The first two years are mostly spent in challenging and exciting courses like Directing the Actor, Dramatic Structure of Film and TV, Lighting for Film and Video Production, and Business of Film and Video. The third year is spent researching and producing a thesis work, giving you a sense of true accomplishment upon graduation.
The Scriptwriting track is a creative course of study that focuses on film production and writing for the screen. You will explore the cinema landscape in your first year with courses such as Film Language, Dramatic Structure of Film and TV, Directing the Actor, and Graduate Screenwriting. Your second year is writing-intensive, blending writing courses such as Writing the Feature I & II, and Theory via Short Narrative Film, with thesis research and prep, culminating in a written thesis script. This three-year masters program in Scriptwriting is a one-of-a-kind educational opportunity for the budding screenwriter.
