RIT School of Print Media Presents: Publishing and Advertising Production Summer Experience (June 29 - July 2, 2008)
The RIT School of Print Media is hosting its annual Publishing and Advertising Production Experience (formerly the “Graphic Media Experience”) from Sunday June 29th through Wednesday July 2nd. The multi-day event offers high school students a unique opportunity to explore career opportunities while using some of the latest technologies available. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that will allow you to explore the tools and trade practices of professionals in publishing, advertising and allied industries.
Who should attend
If you’ve ever considered a career in publishing or in advertising production, this is the program for you. This program was designed specifically for high school students who are interested in the graphic arts, magazine and book publishing, advertising production, information technology and new media. Many of the students who attend are involved in the yearbook and newspaper publications in their high schools. Other students come to us with an interest in print technology or simply a curiosity to learn more about the publishing field.
What you'll gain
The program is designed to offer students hands-on insight into publishing production and advertising technology. You’ll be guided through project work by a team of RIT students, faculty and staff, together offering you a real world perspective and expertise you can’t get any place else. RIT has long held a leadership role in the graphic arts and it’s world-class production facilities are second to none.
What you'll do
To address the diverse interests of the many students who are interested in our programs, we will be offering two simultaneous tracks this year, one focused on advertising production and the other on yearbook production. A brief summary of each is offered below:
- Advertising Production Track
Students will produce materials for a cross-media campaign that may include outdoor signage, posters, a custom magazine and an Internet component. The hands-on experience will include all aspects of production planning from design to production. - Yearbook Production Track
This program is designed to provide managing editors and production editors with the digital workflow skills they need to produce high quality publications. Students will receive hand-on instruction in digital imaging, scanning, photo retouching, advanced page and book layout techniques, proofing and basic print production.
Both programs offer hands-on production with the professional tools of the trade and will help you to understand the many decisions, challenges and opportunities faced by professionals in the field. But you can choose only one...
How to Apply
Students interested in applying to either track should fill out the web-form here. The program cost for this 3½ day event is $325.00. This fee includes tuition, meals, lodging and all social activities once you arrive on campus. It does not include travel.
