Two Student Films Honored at Student Academy Award Regions - One Continues into Finals!

Thursday, April 24 and 25th, two RIT student films were selected to compete in the Regionals of the 40th Student Academy Awards in New York, New York. These wonderful films came from both the Undgraduate Animation and Graduate Film and Animation programs within the School of Film and Animation, competing in two of the four categories: Narrative, Documentary, Animation and Alternative.
RIT Short Selected for Animation: Meloncoly
This Stop-Motion Animation short was completed as Joseph Heinen and Matthew Keils BFA two quarter film of which was also selected for the School of Film and Animation Honor Show this past Fall 2012.
RIT Short Selected for Alternative: Beyond the Spheres
This Experimental Animation short was completed as Meghdad Asadi Lari's MFA side-project for an experimental film course of which was also selected for the School of Film and Animation Honor Show this past Fall 2012.
After the night of the Regional Awards Ceremony, we're happy to report that Meghdad Asadi Lari's MFA film, Beyond the Spheres, will be heading off to the Finals round of the 40th Student Academy Awards! Thirty-eight students from 17 U.S. colleges and universities as well as nine students from foreign universities have been selected as finalists in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Student Academy Awards competition. Winners will be brought to Los Angeles for a week of industry activities and social events that will culminate in the awards ceremony on Saturday, June 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
