The School of Film and Animation's curriculum, developed by our faculty, students and successful alumni, is rooted in a shared passion for filmmaking. For over thirty years we have been preparing writers, producers, directors and the creative specialists for successful careers in the feature film, network/regional television, independent film and non-broadcast industries.
Students of SOFA are encouraged to develop their own personal vision and independent work while they develop the skills needed to fulfill any creative or technical role in our profession. We are a creative community where students discover their unique potential, explore their talents, experiment with ideas and express their message to the world.
With our new Bachelor of Science program in Digital Cinema, SOFA now offers the broadest curriculum choice anywhere. Our Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film and Animation Production is the most selective program at RIT and annually attracts the very best students. Its various curriculum choices and tracks allow students to specialize in any creative skill set or genre. Our interactions with RIT's Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, the RIT Schools of Art, Design and Photography, the Eastman School of Music and SUNY Brockport Theater and Dance encourages rich professional-level student collaborations.
Most importantly our Graduate MFA program in either animation or live action production completes a very mature and intellectually rich community that influences and enriches all script and film work.
I invite you to explore our site, enjoy or students' films and learn more about our school.
