This lamp was a collaboration between Prof. Alex Lobos and Grad Student David Villarreal. It was created in Autodesk Fusion 360. The goal was to generative an elegant form with a simple workflow. The lamp is basically three rings at different heights that are connected together by letting the software generative the geometry.
The lamp was also rendered in Fusion 360 and then taken into CAM for fabrication. We used a Shopbot CNC router to mill out the prototype. We started with foam, then MDF and finally maple wood.
This workflow was presented at the Autodesk University Conference in November 2017 in Las Vegas. If you want to check out the class and access the tutorials, go to:
Special thanks to Mintesinot Tekle Gebre for helping out in the fabrication of the lamp.
