August's First Friday to feature CIAS alumni
Gallery r will present projects by Rochester-area artists who are also College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at RIT alumni as part of August’s First Friday event.
A pair of graduates of the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences’ MFA program, Nick Marshall and Cory Fitzgerald, have joined forces to create “In Neutral,” one of the two works to be featured in the exhibition. The other is a special window installation called “Interloper,” by Cecily Culver, an alumna of the School of Art’s BFA fine arts studio program.
The show is set to hold its opening reception from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 4 at Gallery r, 100 College Ave., Rochester. It will remain on view until Aug. 20.
Marshall and Fitzgerald’s project uses photography and video to explore color, movement and phenomenal experience from the mundane. Culver’s installation, meanwhile, combines taxidermy and robotics. It’s part of a larger body of work created during her residency at the Dedalus Foundation in New York City.
Marshall (manager of exhibitions and programs) and Fitzgerald (installer) each hold positions at the George Eastman Museum. Fitzgerald is also an adjunct professor in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences.
